Hope everyone is doing well. Happy February! I know I know where the heck did January go, the longest and also shortest month of all, at least for me.
I’ve been thinking that I would like to start a new trend. That of asking others what their favorite word is. We ask about food, vacation spots, movies, and cars, etc. But, we hardly ever ask someone what their favorite words is.
Well, since you asked… My favorite word is SERENDIPITY.
I like the way it sounds, I like that it has 5 syllables and I like that there is a wonderful movie by this name. But, most of all, I love its meaning. As you can see from the above photo I have a mug from a restaurant in NYC, called Serendipity 3, it has one definition of the word on the inside, which is,
“the art of finding the unusual, or the pleasantly unexpected by chance or sagacity.”-Horace Walpole
Websters dictionary defines it as, “the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for”. In my very simple terms, its when I find or discover something that I love when I wasn’t even looking and least expect it.
I have a couple of stories that stand out, but I will share my favorite one. First you need to know that when I travel to new places I like to find a crystal or stone from the area to bring back as a reminder of a great trip.
A few years ago, I was on a trip with my husband in Napa Valley. I had been looking for a crystal shop or anyplace that might have a beautiful crystal. Well, no luck and this after looking in several towns and stores. I had pretty much given up and put it out of my mind. Then, one day we were in Healdsburg, CA, just enjoying the town but it was pretty hot. Since we were on vacation, I said, “Let’s have ice cream for lunch.” Being the very wise and loving husband, Jesse agreed. We walked into one shop and something in me just immediately said no, not here, so, we walked out, (side note: Jesse has learned to just go with it when this happens). We walked a little up the street and there was Noble Folk Ice Cream and Pie Bar. It looked perfect. We walked in and there was a wonderful energy. The ice cream and pies look incredible. Chocolate for me please. Then, I started looking around and…there it was, in this very cool, welcoming ice cream shop they had a few shelves of crystals! I know, Right?! On the middle shelf I found my Quartz, the one pictured below, which is by far one of my very favorite crystals. There you have it, Serendipity! At that time I wasn’t looking for the crystal, but it found me. Say it again, SERENDIPITY!
Next time you are with a friend, ask them what their favorite word is, it may just start a great conversation.
What’s your favorite word? (Keep it PG please)
Have a great day wherever you are, and here’s to some serendipity finding it’s way to you.
